The Daily CourierThere aren't that many country gospel quartets in Arizona, but there are some. And one of those groups, The Presidio Boys, is coming to Prescott on Sunday, March 22, for "American Made." Presented by Lonely Street Productions and performing at the Elks Theatre and Performing Arts Center, the group recreates the hits of country and gospel groups like the Oak Ridge Boys, Statler Brothers and the Cathedrals. Bass singer and founding member Juan Aguirre said the Presidio Boys were founded when Lonely Street Productions was looking for a Gospel quartet to back up the Elvis tribute show. "There isn't a whole lot of Arizona Gospel groups," Aguirre said, noting that the group Lonely Street approached, the Gatekeepers, pointed them to him. "I helped find a few other singers and from that we thought it would be fun to form a country gospel quartet." Aguirre said he enjoys the company of his fellow performers and how they can get together and rehearse for many hours, adding that it is very important to him to have that sort of camaraderie. He also said the music the group sings is a blast and he can relax and have fun while doing it. As with every show put on by Lonely Street Productions, "American Made" brings its audience to nostalgic times gone by. Aguirre said most audience members are going to be 30 plus and there are a lot of transplants from the Midwest, Southern and Eastern United States. "They grew up with southern Gospel," he said, noting the well-known popularity of groups like the Oak Ridge Boys and songs like "Elvira," "Flowers on the Wall" and "Hello, Mary Lou." "The taste of home is an appealing thing." "American Made" will be at the Elks Theatre and Performing Arts Center, located at 117 E.
